IMEC NAVY Lifting Skid
DEI was contacted by IMEC to design a steel base skid and lifting framework to transport an 11,000 pound Atlas Copco air compressor for use by the Navy.
Using loading and geometric information found in the cut sheets for the compressor, DEI designed a tube steel frame with the intent of aligning lifting lugs symmetrically with the net center
of gravity of the base frame and compressor. Design requirements included a factor of safety of 3 for yield strength, 5 for ultimate strength, and also that two diagonal legs be capable of supporting the
lifting load on their own.
